Abstract |
Purpose This paper is an analysis to clarify the concept of hope in people with schizophrenia.
Methods Literatures about hope and interview data with 47 people with schizophrenia(38 males and 9 females) were analysed using the concept clarification method of Norris.
Results The five categories (hope, the sources of hope, hope- maintanance strategies, inhibitors of hope, the negative outcomes of hopelessness) were emerged from a literature review and interview data. From the five categories, the operational definition of hope, a model of hope, and 23 hypotheses regarding hope in people with schizophrenia were described.
Conclusion This conceptual analysis provides a theoretical ground to understand the meaning of hope in people with schizophrenia for the psychiatric nursing researchers and psychiatric nurses. |
