Abstract |
Purpose The present study was conducted to examine the levels of arthralgia, physical function, physical self-efficacy and depression and to identify the discriminating power of their depression by arthralgia, physical function, physical self-efficacy on elderly women.
Methods A cross-sectional survey design was used to answer the research questions. A sample consisted of 78 elderly women in Korea. The data were collected from 2004 to 2004. Descriptive and discriminant analyses were utilized.
Results Korean elderly women experienced middle levels of arthralgia, physical function, physical self-efficacy and depression. The subjects were distributed in three groups of depression: 17 subjects (21.8%) in non-depressed group, 40 subjects (51.3%) in mild-depressed group and 21 subjects (26.9%) in severe-depressed group. Arthralgia, physical function and physical self-efficacy were significant discriminating factors for depression of elderly women. Arthralgia, physical function and physical self-efficacy correctly discriminated 60.3% of the sample.
Conclusion Based on the findings of this study, developing managemental intervention programs and examining the effects of the program for elderly women to reduce their depression are suggested. |
