Stress, Anger, Anger Expression, and Depression between Battered Women and Non Battered Women

Abstract
Purpose
This study was conducted to evaluate differences in stress, anger, and depression between battered women and non battered women.
Methods
The data was analyzed using a SPSS program for descriptive statistics, '-test, t-test and ANOVA, 789 married women were recruited from 13 areas in korea from Nov. 18, 2004 to Feb. 18, 2005. The reliability of the 4 instruments was tested with Cronbach's alpha which ranged from .82 to .94. Result: 69.7%(N=550) of women experienced some type of family violence. 34.3% experienced physical violence, 65.6% experienced psychological violence and 32.3% experienced sexual violence, Battered women were significantly more higher than non battered women in stress(t=6.69), state anger(t=7.52), anger-in(t=8.34), anger-out(t=9.16), depression(t=8.25).
Conclusion
This study suggest that violence of husbands can be considered as factors which makes wives to be stressful, angry and depressive. Also the results suggest stress, anger, anger expression, and depression of battered women should be considered in the intervention program.
