Abstract |
Purpose This present study was conducted to investigate the correlation among family function, perceived occurrence and seriousness of problem behaviors for female adolescents.
Methods The subjects were collected by convenient sampling comprised of 238 middle school girls. The instruments of the study were family strengths which was developed by Olson et al,(1982) originally to assess successful family relations and modified Korean Youth Self-Report (K-YSR) which measured internalized and externalized problem behaviors.
Results There was negative correlation between family strengths and perceived occurrence or seriousness of problem behaviors.
Adolescents' sociodemographic characteristics influencing family strengths, perceived occurrence or seriousness of problem behaviors were as follows; school grade, family monthly income, a person whom consult with when adolescents have matters, and relationship with parents or siblings.
Conclusion This study revealed family-related variables affected perceived occurrence or seriousness of problem behaviors for female adolescents. Further studies and interventions directed to enhance healthy family environments for adolescents were suggested. |
