Prediction Model on the Psychological Outcomes in Battered Women

Abstract
Purpose
This study was designed to construct a structural model for explaining psychological outcomes in battered women.
Methods
Data were collected by questionnaires from 261 battered women. Data analysis was done with SPSS for descriptive statistics and a PC-LISREL Program for Covariance structural analysis.
Results
According to modified model, mild physical violence had a significant direct effect on anger, social support, marital stability, and helplessness. Social support had a significant direct effect on self esteem, depression and suicidal risk. Marital stability had a significant direct effect on helplessness and depression. Anger expression method had a significant direct effect on social support, marital stability, self esteem, helplessness, depression, and suicidal risk. Self esteem had a significant direct effect on helplessness and suicidal risk. Helplessness had a significant direct effect on depression and suicidal risk. Depression had a significant direct effect on suicidal risk.
Conclusion
The derived model is considered appropriate for explaining and predicting psychological outcomes in battered women.
