Abstract |
Purpose A survey was performed to explore elements and level of hassles perceived by family caregivers in caring dementia patients at home.
Methods Study subjects were recruited from one home-visiting center and 110 caregivers were participated in the survey. Data were collected by a home visiting nurse utilizing semi-structured questionnaires developed by authors for two months.
Results Family caregivers reported hassles related to caregivers* factors, environmental factors, and dementia patients' factors in order. Top the most two difficult to deal with in caring dementia patients at home were financial deficit and physical health problems of caregivers', which suggested a lot to researchers and clinical experts, since more attention has been directed toward dementia patients rather than their family caregivers in the effort to help caregivers.
Conclusion More attention and effort toward family caregivers are needed to facilitate their caregiving tasks and more researches are needed to establish feasible and practical ways to help family caregivers of dementia patients. |
