Abstract
Purpose
This study was to identify rearing stress and family function of mothers who has the autistic and normal children.
Methods
Data were collected from 205 mothers al autistic children's institute, pediatric psychiatry, children’s welfare institute, nursery and kindergarten in Seoul and Gyonggi-Do from August 10 to September 4, 2004.
Results
In the degree of the rearing stress and family function on the mother who has autistic and normal child, the former had the highly degree than the latter, and the both group has more rearing stress on parent's factor than children's factor. There was statistically significant negative correlation between rearing stress and family function of autistic child family, but no correlation between fostering stress and family function of non-autistic child family.
Conclusion
To decrease rearing stress of mother who has autistic child, we must to strengthen family function on family cohesion and family adaptability, especially in aspects of partner's relationship, social isolation and parent's strengthening.
