Abstract |
Purpose This study aimed to examine the effects of dance/movement programs on self-esteem, depression, and anxiety in psychiatric inpatients.
Methods The research design was a non-equivalent and non-synchronized control group design. For this research, a total of 43 subjects were selected at a psychiatric unit of C university hospital in U-city.
The experimental group consisted of 20 subjects and they received a dance/movement program service 2 times per week for 5 weeks. The remaining 23 subjects were assigned to the control group and they received standard services without a dance/movement program. In data analysis the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program was used.
Results The experimental group significantly improved compared to the control group in self-esteem and anxiety. However, in terms of depression, the experimental group showed greater improvement than the control group, but there was no statistical significance.
Conclusion This study result suggests that dance/movement programs could improve self-esteem, depression, and anxiety in psychiatric inpatients |
