The Purpose of this study was to examine the effect of psychiatric rehabilitation program focused on reality therapy on the locus of control and psychopathology in patients with schizophrenia.
The method utilized for this study was quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The period of the study is from January 8 to March 21, 2001 and the subjects were 24 patients with schizophrenia who had been hospitalized at rehabilitation unit of National Mental Hospital.
There were 12 members group who participated rehabilitation program therapy and 12 members The instruments used
in the experimental in the psychiatric focused on reality in the control group, to measure the effectiveness of this study were BPRS of Overall. Internal-External Locus of control by Rotter. The data collected was processed using the SPSS/PC + program and analyzed using X 2-test, Mann-Whitney U test. schizophrenia.

1. The scores for internal locus of control in the experimental group were higher than those of the control group.
2. The scores for psychopathology in the experimental group were lower than those of the control group. In lower scale, the score anxiety-depression and withdrawal-retardation in the experimental group were lower than those of the control group, but hostility-suspiciousness and thought disturbance were not statistically significant.
In conclusion, the findings proved that psychiatric rehabilitation program focused on reality therapy for patients with schizophrenia was an effective intervention in improving internal locus of control, anxiety-depression, withdrawal-retardation. |
